To see or not to see your Bride/Groom before the Wedding

First look at your Wedding

Your Wedding day is exactly that, Your Wedding day.  You should have it as you have always dreamed with the man/lady of your dreams.

One question that should always be asked is whether to have a first look on your Wedding day.  A first look is when the Bride and Groom see each other prior to the Wedding ceremony.  This can be a set up location or it might be a spontaneous meeting.

Traditionally, this was not something that was done, and some people say it is bad luck.  I always say that rules are meant to be broken.

Here is a list of questions to ask about having/not having a first look.

1) Should I have a first look?

2) What will a first look do for us?

3) Where will we have a first look?

4) Should the first look be just Bride and Groom or should family/friends watch?

5) Will the photographer capture images of this?

6) When should we have the first look?

7) Will we get better images if we do a first look?

Why would you even think about doing this?  There are a number of answers to this question.  Some people do a first sight at their Wedding to relax nerves.  Some people want to capture tons of images at multiple locations and this would not be possible without a first sight.  Some just find it easier.  Others think it is the new way to get married.  You have extra time to tell each other how much you love them and how awesome they look.  You can exchange a gift before walking down the isle.  You can involve pets.  You can capture images in a different dress.  If you are a crier, you have time to get yourself put back together with makeup and such.

I would say that about 25% of my Brides and Grooms have a first sight.  I do not push to have anyone do this but I do see the advantages of having a first sight.

You can enjoy the entire cocktail hour with your friends and family.  This is something that is missed, most of the time, by Brides and Grooms because they are out capturing images.

Kids are usually better early in the day than later.  If you can time images of kids at the best time for them it will make everyone happy.

Think about having a first sight on your Wedding day.  It is another way that you can personalize your Wedding day.
