Wedding story skit
This is a fun story from a past Wedding of mine. Totally out of the box thinking and execution. I am not mentioning any people to protect my clients. Everyone has their own opinions and methods of doing things and this bride and groom are no different. Northern Michigan alternative Wedding story by Paul Retherford.

A bride and groom hire me for a lake wedding at a rental house in Northern Michigan.
I have not met either of them. We only speak on the phone up until the Wedding day.
On the Wedding I arrive early, as usual, to scout out the area and interact with the bride and groom to help relax them in front of my camera.
Everything seems really “normal.”
The plan is to clear out the living room and have the Wedding right in front of the fireplace.
Seating is set up for the 20+ guests and the ceremony location is ready.
Every sits down and relaxes while waiting for the ceremony.
Time for the ceremony comes and no one can find the bride and groom.
Then one person notices the groom is on the end of the dock on the lake.
He appears to be looking for something side to side.
The groom then turns around and walks off of the dock, collects some wood from the wood pile, enters the house through the sliding door, and begins to build a fire.
I thought, “Well, this is different, let’s see where this goes.”
After the fire is burning, the groom steps to the side and waits for his bride.
The bride enters via an upstairs room and looks over the railing down at the wedding ceremony and out of the window. She/they are obviously acting. Following the long peering, she makes her way to the stairwell down to the ceremony.
An officiant steps to the front and welcomes the bride, groom, and guests.
As the ceremony proceeds, it becomes obvious that it is a skit about cave people. The bride being a cavewoman and the groom being a caveman.
After vows and the exchange of rings, which include references to cave living and cave love, the officiant names them husband and wife.
She proclaims, “You may now take your cavewoman back to your cave.”
At his cue, the groom picks up his bride and carries her into an adjacent bedroom.
They remain in this room for some time?
The guests start to get restless and wonder what is happening, and of course what they are supposed to think and do.
It felt VERY awkward.
After about ten minutes they come out of the room as their guests clap.
I never did ask why. Were they actors? Were they trying to have a Wedding that would be talked about for eternity?
This couple will forever be included in my Wedding story bank.
If people ask me, “What was the weirdest Wedding you have done?” This is in the top five.
