There is a lot to do on Mackinac Island and you can go to places on the island that are remote and you won’t see a soul either. Mackinac Island is safe. Many people don’t even lock up their bikes, or for that matter, take their personal items out of their baskets. Don’t get me wrong, there are thieves anywhere so you have to be careful but Mackinac Island residents watch out for each other.

If you like beaches, there are a few. Not as many as your caribbean islands but you can find a fare share. Pets are allowed on the island with a leash and there are pet friendly spots to stay. Fly in to the island or take the ferry across from St. Ignace or Mackinac City.
The resorts, hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, and rental houses are fantastic and really have the feeling of destination wedding without the hassle of all of the flying, language differences, passports, and more. You are always less than 20 minutes from the mainland of Michigan.
