The island has no cars and the transportation is via horse carriage, buggy, bike, and foot. This makes the island very friendly in itself since people are not hidden behind their walls of their cars. It is also safe and pet friendly too! Regarding the pet friendly, there are many accommodations that will accept pets, and pets are allowed on the ferries too.
It may seem like this island is tough to access but quit the contrary. The ferry schedule is full and it is run very professionally and has for many, many years. My experiences have been nothing but positive with the ferries and the transportation.
When you get to the island everything changes, including the pace, the attitude, and the feelings of love and family. All of the weight of the world is let of off your shoulders and you are on your own spectacular island for now, and possibly forever, if you wish.
As a photographer on Mackinac Island, I can tell you that there are too many locations on the island to even begin to list for great images. You have everything from water images, Mackinac Bridge images, downtown, historic houses, outdoor, garden and flowers, forts, rock formations, grand hotels, inns, carriage rides, horses, and the list goes on and on. I can tell you that a day on the island will be a day never forgotten once you see the images that I will make for you.

You can also hit the trails and do thousands of miles of sledding in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
