Winter on Mackinac Island, Michigan is so much different than the busy Summer months with all the action. Main Street is basically closed down and the snowmobiles are out. People can catch a taxi right at the dock and head to their B&B or rental home. Village Inn and Mustang Lounge are open for food and spirits too. Bring your skis, snowshoes, or just winter clothes and enjoy the views.
Arnold line services Mackinac Island until ice. When I went on December 30th the ferry boat was full do to the New Year Celebration on Mackinac Island. We arrived on the island to a large Christmas tree with lights, a nativity scene, taxis waiting for passengers, and lots of snowmobiles. The local police SUV drove by shortly after arriving too. Mackinac Island has a different feel in the Winter, and I like it.
I met Rebecca and Kevin in St. Ignace for a trip over to Mackinac Island for their Wedding Engagement Photography. We took the Noon ferry over and the 4:30 pm back. In between we did a bunch of hiking and made it to Tranquility Point, East Bluff overlook, downtown Mackinac, Mission Point Resort, and more. We ended the afternoon at the Mustang Lounge for some chili and a beverage.
