Northern Michigan fall wedding photography

Fall weddings in Northern Michigan are full of color and a variety of weather conditions. In my mind, the positives always out weigh the negatives. A gorgeous bride with reds, oranges, yellows, and greens really makes the dress pop.

The Perry Hotel in downtown Petoskey, Michigan is set up for all types of weather conditions. They are happy to host weddings even in the winter months in their Rose Garden, outdoor covered location that is complete with heaters and drapes.

You are a block away from the water with protection from the dominant wind and views of Little Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan. The ski slopes in Harbor Springs, including Knubs Nob and Boyne Highlands, are right across the bay too.

The Perry Hotel rooms include a nice selection that have sweeping views of Lake Michigan and the Harbor Springs are that can only be seen from the Perry Hotel and a plane.

The advantages of having one location for your entire wedding is that family and guests can just walk a few steps from the ceremony to the reception. The family and friends can stay right upstairs at the Perry Hotel or anywhere in town. The Holiday Inn Express in town offers free limo service to and from Petoskey locations.

The families rented a huge log cabin 5 minutes outside of town where a bunch of the family stayed for three nights, they had rehearsal dinner there, and the bride and family members did their wedding preparation there too.

The wedding ceremony took place in the Rose Garden under the canopy with the plastic side curtains down and the heaters blasting. Everyone seemed to be very comfortable with the 30 degree weather outside and the 60+ in the enclosed area.

The bride and groom wanted to stay right on the property for the images the wedding. The Perry has a bunch of nice locations for photography. It is large enough that you can get away from the family and guests and make nice location images. The downtown is very walkable too. Pennsylvania Park across the road from the Perry Hotel is a nice open location for groups images too.

The wedding reception was in the H.O. Rose Room inside the Perry Hotel. This location has a nice view of Little Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan. The H.O. Rose Room is a elegant location with beautiful tables, chairs, large windows, pillars, and lots of seating for medium sized weddings.

The bride wore Dessy Collection wedding dress. Their wedding colors were yellow, pink, gray, and red. They danced to “Always” by Frank Sinatra.
