Your the best man or maid of honor and you need to give the speech at the reception. You are probably a bit nervous if you are not used to talking on the microphone. No worries, everyone expects a poor speech, so there are no high expectations. So, starting from the ground level you are have the odds on your side.
Personalize your speech and it will be the most effective. People enjoy when you use a personal twist on the best man or maid of honor speech. He was probably way ahead of the game but it may give you some insight on how to approach writing a speech, oh, and by the way, how about not reading it off of the paper, notes are good, but verbatum is not.
