Mackinac Island Destination Dream Wedding Wedding ~ Images for a Cure

Mackinac Island Destination Dream Wedding Weekend and Images for a Cure

This coming weekend is the annual Mackinac Island Destination Dream Wedding Weekend on Mackinac Island, Northern Michigan.  The weekend is hosted by the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau. The event is three days and it is set up so that all the brides and grooms have a chance to look at the locations around the island to set up their weddings.

Saturday vendors are placed in the Mackinac Island Wedding locations to speak with the attendants.  Unfortunately, I, Paul Retherford Wedding Photography, have a Wedding both Friday and Saturday and I will not be able to attend.  If you would like to speak with me on Sunday I will be available all day long.  Call me at 231.445.1793 or email me at paul@paulretherford.com

Another option is to set up a Photography Session with me on Mackinac Island on Sunday October 11, 2009.  I am donating my time and images for Images for a Cure which all proceeds go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  The Sessions are $200, this if over 50% off!, and last one hour long.  You get all of the images on DVD for your printing needs.  I also put images up on a website for you and on Facebook for you to tag and show friends.  What better way could there be to meet me and get fabulous images while you are on the island!  The sessions are open to any type of photography you wish.

Infrared black and white Photography on Lake Superior in Canada

Infrared Black and White Photography Lake Superior

A trip to the North End of Lake Superior near the Lake Superior Provincial Park is a good thing.  Not only is it beautiful and relaxing but we get the dogs out running on the beach and tire them out for days, sometimes weeks.

This particular trip I decided to use my dedicated Canon Infrared camera and convert most of the images to black and white infrared photography.  The results are unique and I love them!

The North end of Lake Superior reminds me of the Northern California coastline where I lived for over 2 years.  Very rugged terrain and sheer rock walls that jet out from the deep depths of Lake Superior.  Lake Superior is also a massive body of water that should be respected.

    • SarahThe infrared effect on the trees is very interesting – there are beautiful landscapes in the Nipigon area near Thunder Bay – give me a shout if you are driving around the top of lake superior for tips of where to shoot!

    Wedding at Harbor Lights Resort

Friday I traveled to Frankfort, Michigan to capture a Wedding at the Harbor Lights Resort on the Lake Michigan beach. It was a fabulous day in West Michigan.  I nice breeze and around 80 degrees.  The great lake had a slight texture with the sun sparkling off of the surface.  It was wonderful!

The couple traveled all the way from San Diego with family and friends from all over the World to exchange their vows.  The bride was born and raised in Michigan and the groom was born and raised in San Diego.  They definitely brought the warm weather from the west coast with them.

Harbor Lights Resort is fabulous for Lake Michigan beach Weddings.  The bride prepared in a condo that walked right out onto the beach, there is parking adjacent to the ceremony site, restrooms next to site, and the view is unmatched.  The Harbor Lights management is very accommodating too.

The Frankfort, Michigan area is perfect for a Wedding.  Everywhere you look there is another location for beautiful Wedding Photography.  Right near Frankfort, Michigan there are tons of beautiful beaches available to the public, locations off of Lake Michigan like the Betsy River and Crystal Lake, lots of lighthouses like Point Betsy and the Frankfort lighthouses, and lots of other reasons to book your Wedding in West Michigan.

Feel free to contact the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce to help you plan your Wedding day!

Wedding Reception at Elberta Historic Life Saving Station

The Elberta Historic Life Saving Station is a fantastic Wedding location and Wedding reception location on the Betsy River just footsteps to Lake Michigan.  The location is just of the great lake to allow calmer winds during windy days and there are wonderful sunset views available right from the deck and also up the ridge at the overlook.  The life saving station is open aired and is very ornate with historic qualities that add that extra touch to your Wedding.  You can have events inside the building or in a tent just outside the building.  The Elberta Life Saving Station can accommodate large groups too.

West Michigan Weddings on Lake Michigan

Congratulations to Tracy and Nick on your beautiful Wedding day!  You could not have asked for a more wonderful couple.  They were open to any suggestions and we had a wonderful time together!

A word about the vendors for the day.  First of all,  I did the photography, and you should really book Paul Retherford Wedding Photography for your Wedding anywhere in the World.

The DJ was Paul Widlund from BDJ’s in Northern Michigan. Paul is awesome and has top of the line equipment too.  Paul is VERY personable and he got out on the dance floor and danced a couple times and helped people with words to songs by singing them for them.  We sat down and ate dinner together and you can tell this guy is a good dude.  Oh, he also worked 10 hours  on the bride and grooms dance medley!   Nice working with you Paul!

Flowers were prepared by Victoria’s Floral Design.  They were beautiful!  Orchids were the flowers of choice with Daisies for the boutinerres.  The flowers held up through the hot day too.  They matched the dark sage green and pale yellow Wedding colors too.

Roger Duford from All Seasons Catering cooked all the fantastic food for the evening.  Tracy and Nick had a nice spread of food on their buffet and it was all yummy!

The bride’s gown was from Casablanca Bridal and the guys all wore Calvin Klein.  Everyone looked fantastic and the colors really popped together.

Hope all this information helps you book your West Michigan Wedding at Harbor Lights Resort and Elberta Historic Life Saving Station.  Feel free to call or email me if you need more information too.  Here are a couple more images for you and then Wedding slideshow of the day.
