DSLR Marketing to watch out for…

It has always struck me as funny how much attention new cameras get when they are first introduced. I don’t ever recall me buying a camera when it is hot to the market. I just don’t think that it is necessary.

The DSLR camera field is getting to a point now that it is almost ridiculous. Can you really tell the difference in your work from a 12 and 16 megapixel or 8 and 16 camera. Some people may if you have very specific fields of photography. Do you remember when Pros were using 2 megapixel cameras and making fantastic images? I remember seeing road signs that George Lepp shot and I was blown away when he said in his lecture that they were from his 2 megapixel Canon.

Sure cameras have come a long way BUT I think that a lot of Pros are using this whole camera race as a status symbol. Cameras have SOOOOOOOOO many bells and whistles that you pay for options that will NEVER be used on your camera.

I suggest concentrating on your photography and making the best images that your creative mind can make with the cameras that you have. Invest those extra funds that you would have spent on your brand new DSLR in your company or good mutual funds and enjoy your time in retirement when that comes!

Be smart with your purchases and really question if your new camera will make you that much more money. If the answer is no, well, then take a deep breath and enjoy the equipment that you own. I regularly shoot with lower end cameras than some of the guests at the weddings that I shoot. Does this bother me, no, look at the end results.

Don’t let the large camera companies run your life by keeping you on the edge of your seat for the latest and greatest when you have the best piece of photographic material right in your head.
